This photo, I feel, could have been less...if it was just the grass stem into the sky. But the barbed wire reflects the idea of a boundary, and a sort of seperation between two different places. The rising of the stem into the sky pushes you up, and the natural fram of the leaves around it keeps you there in the higher part of the image, but slightly distanced from it.
Something like that.
Another idea, i kind of prefer this one, Is that the plant is beauty, tranquility, serenity. But you should not be caught up in this, because life is harsh, as represented by the barbed wire.
The idea of that, is basically how it is used...look on many fences, seperating different places, they have barbed wire on the top or going running along it. I think i agree with you where you say it is calm, although I hadn't thought about it like that before...
Natural frames can be very good things to have on an image.

this image made me think along lines like: "over the boundary". It's the twig showing behind the barbed wire, with the other twig on this side. It'd need the wire to be a little bit lighter so it stands out a bit more. Anyways, just my mind roaming.
Excellent concept.

I understand what you mean about the wire needing to be brighter...I'll see if i can either get another shot similar hopefully with the wire brighter, or try and brighten up the wire in this one...

Very interesting thinking of the barbed wire as a statement of boundaries.
I do really like the natural frame that the leaves of the trees create around the stem.
